The fact that cow farts are a leading cause of greenhouse gases has been pretty well documented by now, and has been an important factor in the anti-beef, pro-vegan movement. In fact, one-third of all methane emissions (900 billion tonnes per year) come from cattle, sheep and goats. Plus, methane is 20 times more powerful at trapping heat in our atmosphere than carbon dioxide is. But there might be a solution to cutting down on the methane produced by our cows, and it’s in the form of the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oils. That’s right: the same omega 3 products we eat for all of their health benefits could be helping the environment too. So now instead of capping the number of cattle allowed per country, we need only to implement a stricter diet for them – one that includes fish oils.
