Florida votes to spend BP’s Deepwater Horizon fines on Gulf Restoration

Today a poll was released indicating that 84% of Florida voters support a bill which would see that the fines paid by BP for the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill would be spent on Gulf Restoration. Additionally, the results of the poll indicated that 74% of voters would be likely to support political candidates who support the bill (take note, Presidential Candidates).
And while environmental action is usually considered a Democratic trend, the results showed that support for Gulf Restoration extended beyond the party line. The support from each political group is broken down like this:
- 82% of Republicans and 84% of GOP presidential primary voters
- 84% of Tea Party supporters
- 88% of Independents
- 83% of Democrats
We’ll look forward to seeing how BP’s fines will be spent in the Gulf – especially considering the total cost is a projected $45 million.
