Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, you’ve heard about AIG’s decision to award top executives bonuses totaling $165, despite the fact that the money is coming from the taxpayers in the form of a government bailout. Now Congress and the Obama administration are trying to get the money back, but who knows how successful they’ll be.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, you’ve heard about AIG’s decision to award top executives bonuses totaling $165 million, despite the fact that the money is coming from the taxpayers in the form of a government bailout. Now Congress and the Obama administration are trying to get the money back, but who knows how successful they’ll be. These recent events beg the question: how can the government justify giving millions (or sometimes billions) of dollars go to banks and people that don’t necessarily need it rather than putting it towards something that can really help the country, like new infrastructure or more powerful smart grids?
