If your home is lacking a certain pizzazz, a fresh coat of paint is a great way to bring it back to life. But with traditional paint comes a boatload of toxic chemicals that aren’t good for your health or the environment. Thankfully, plenty of paint companies now offer eco-friendly options that won’t require wearing a mask around your house for the next month.

Low VOC Paints

If the color you’re eyeing is rare or only available from one of the larger paint companies, then you will at least want to consider going with the low-VOC (volatile organic compound) version. It won’t be completely free of chemicals, but will have significantly less than other types. Here are a few to choose from: Benjamin Moore AURA paint, Benjamin Moore Pristine EcoSpec, and Cloverdale EcoLogic.

Zero VOC Paints

Even better for you and the environment are Zero VOC paints. They contain no harmful chemicals, and some are even made to be non-toxic. You can choose from a pretty substantial collection, but here are some of the best: YOLO Colorhouse Paint, Devine Paints, Mythic Paint, AFM Safecoat, Sherwin Williams Harmony, and Devoe Wonder Pure.

Natural Paints

If you’re not committed to any particular color and going green is your top priority, then consider all-natural paint. The color palette may be limited, but look hard enough and you’ll find something suited to your space. Here are a few to choose from: Green Planet Paints, Old Fashioned Milk Paint, Aglaia Natural Paints, Bioshield Healthy Living Paints.

Given the number of green paint options out there, why risk your health for something as small as a fresh coat of paint? Go green, your walls won’t know the difference.
