Everyone’s heard the saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” A saying fewer people are familiar with is, “one man’s trash makes another man’s shoes,” but Brooks Running Shoes are about to change that with their new line of eco-friendly runners, Brooks Green Silence.

Believe it or not, the shoes pictured above are made out of used clothing, old CDs, broken down couches, and all other kinds of products you would normally find in the landfill.

If diverting trash away from the garbage dump wasn’t enough, Brooks Green Silence also tie up with 100% post-consumer recycled shoe laces, ship in 100% recycled packaging, and use only soy-based inks and water-based adhesives. The shoes take advantage of Brooks’ patented BioMoGo technology, which is made with anaerobic microbes that eat away at the sole once the shoes hit the landfill. The insoles and collar foams are made from biodegradable materials as well.

It’s a unisex design, so whether you’re an environmentally conscious man or woman, the shoe will always fit! They’re being released to stores this spring, and retail for $100 USD ($110 CDN).
