Sustainable egg cartons made from heat pressed hay

Happy Eggs sustainable packaging

Even though a traditional cardboard crate isn’t the least sustainable form of packaging you’ll find at the supermarket, designer Maja Szcypek has put forth a new concept for an even more eco-friendly packaging design for eggs. The ‘Happy Eggs‘ packaging is made from heat pressed hay, which requires less manufacturing and is obviously readily available in bulk quantities.

Check out the gallery of this eco friendly packaging below:

Would you be more likely to buy ‘Happy Eggs’ if you saw this package on the grocery store shelves?

According to a forecast the global market for Biodegradable polymers will reach 1845 million lbs by year 2015. Bioplastics are the new way to go for flexible packaging companies all over the world. The growth of these polymers has occurred due to the fast depletion of natural resources like fossil fuel leading to the shift towards
renewable sources. Also protests against environmental pollution caused by
plastics, emission of green house gases, escalating cost of petroleum etc have
made the flexible packaging companies to adopt the bioplastics.
