Summer School

As a Summer school student, you have a lot on your plate. First you have to dedicate a portion of your Summer season to education, grades and homework. Who wants to do that? And second if you’re at all concerned with the environment, you’re probably wondering about ways to help while you’re in school.

Whether you’re in medical translation school or studying to become a lawyer, below we have a few good tips for you on how to do just that and still keep your head above water with both good grades and good stewardship.

1. Bike To School

If you live relatively close to school why not take your bike instead of driving and negate additional fossil fuels from entering the atmosphere. Not only is biking an earth friendly activity, it’s also great for you. The exercise to and from school everyday will keep you alert and vibrant which will enable you to finish your studies and do your homework or at the very least give you a mental boost to finish early. Try a bike ride this Summer.

2. Carpool

If biking is not an option, then the next best thing to get to and from school would be to carpool with neighbors and or friends. This clever idea is both a money saver and a gas saver. Get together with three or so friends and let them know that everyone will be alternating on the car rides and that instead of everyone taking their own vehicles to school, you want to try a carpool situation. This should prove to be not only eco friendly, but loads of fun also – if planned right.

3. Use Tablet Instead of Laptop

It wasn’t too long ago, when we were advised to use our laptops instead of the bigger and bulkier desktops, because laptops were lighter and also consumed less resources. Now as time marches on, tablets are the new sheriff in town and as such we are now being advised to use these instead because they are now the lighter and less wasteful electronic device. You can surf the web, check email, do research and more with a tablet (whether the iPad or another brand) at school and gladly do it knowing you’re consuming less of Earth’s precious resources.

4. Start Something Green

Are you a leader? If so, you are either thinking of or have already started a new group or club that enlists other students to partake in green and eco friendly initiatives around your school. This could be in the form of a recycling club, a garden group, a vegetarian Meetup, and so much more. The sky’s the limit and you can pretty much come up with a myriad of ideas to get something interesting and fun going. Start by asking your fellow students what they like and or want to see happen – then see what you guys can come up with.

Ever since the green and eco movement hit some years ago, there’s no shortage of support for things that improve or bring awareness to Mother Earth. However your efforts don’t have to be bland or dull – make it a fun endeavor for yourself and for everyone involved.
