Coca-Cola’s Times Square Billboard is Going Green
by: Ian Andrew
Even though they won’t be the first eco-billboard on the block (despite their claims, Ricoh beat them to it back in July), Coca-Cola has announced that their landmark Times Square billboard is going green for 2009, and starting it off right on New Year’s Eve. Apparently influenced by the soft-drink giant’s decision to switch over to wind-power, the owners of 30 of the neighbouring billboards decided to hop on board and switch to clean energy for their lighting needs too. And now that the billboard has gone green, what better message to display on the screen than Coke’s new ‘green‘ ad campaign: “Refresh. Recycle. Repeat.” Look for the sign to be lit up tomorrow night at the New Year’s Eve bash in Times Square.

I think it’s great when large companies do this sort of thing. It makes people think twice about going green.
