Mary Kay LogoEver wondered how many cosmetic compacts get thrown out, and why they’re not being recycled? Mary Kay Cosmetics realized that compacts can and should be recycled, and decided to launch the Pink Going Green campaign that plants a tree for every compact that is returned, up to 100,000 trees. Plus, their new shipping “peanuts” are made from corn and potato starch rather than styrofoam. That means they decompose incredibly quickly and won’t ever wind up in a landfill. The cosmetics manufacturer is also joining many other companies in green initiatives by offering incentives to its employees that carpool, and that use public transportation. Make sure that the next compact you use up doesn’t end up in the trash – it could mean the same as a tree.
