Green Meetings Show You Care

Filed under the “Corporate Responsibility” is another green trend that is becoming increasingly important to the public: green meetings. According to CNN, a five day meeting with 2,200 people in attendance can produce as much as one ton of plastic waste. When you consider the amount of plastic plates, utensils, cups, lanyards, and additional promotional materials that are briefly used and then quickly disposed of, it’s important to think green. While some organizers help offset the carbon of travellers to the event, some buy clean energy and use compostable materials for their utensils. Although the best example I can think of to exhibit such a green meeting was the Toronto Green Living Show a few weeks ago, CNN is reporting the upcoming Democratic and Republican National Conventions will be using biodegradable balloons, recycled confetti, carpet, and eco-friendly paint among other things. If you’re an event organizer, keep in mind that your attendees are now coming to expect these green standards!
