World’s First Living Tree Tower – With Photos

Forget living in skyscrapers – we should be living in trees! That seems to be the mentality of a group of researchers in southern Germany who have built the makings of what will be the first tower made from hundreds of living, breathing plants. 
Forget living in skyscrapers – we should be living in trees! That seems to be the mentality of a group of researchers in southern Germany who have built the makings of what will be the first tower made from hundreds of living, breathing plants.
The structure, although mostly zinc-coated steel platforms for now, is a staggering 9 metres high and 8 square metres wide, and was built with a few large trees planted in the ground, and hundreds of smaller trees planted in containers. As the smaller trees develop and grow bigger, pieces of the scaffolding will be removed, leaving only living walls, and an organic tower to climb on, walk through, and even live in.
The only downside: it’s going to take an estimated 8 – 10 years to fully reach this point. Regardless, it’s a very cool idea, and one that will be very interesting to watch develop.
