Kitchen grease has been used for years as an alternative source of fuels for bio-vehicles (like the one featured in the new documentary Fuel) but until now, no one has thought of using the grease to power the same kitchen it came from.

    Kitchen Grease Generator

Kitchen grease has been used for years as an alternative source of fuels for bio-vehicles but until now, no one has thought of using the grease to power the same kitchen it came from. The simple-but-brilliant idea came from James Peret who has been building a 5 kW grease generator for the past 4 years. His new invention can process around 80 gallons of grease every week and produce enough energy with that amount to save restaurants around $1,000 per month. Peret’s planning to sell the Vegawatt generators through Owl Power Company and, although they’re ready for market, there’s no word yet on cost or backorders. Learn more about the Vegawatt at Owl Power Company’s official site.
