There’s a road in a small town in The Netherlands that is being paved with air purifying concrete stones that contain a “titanium dioxide-based catalyst”. What does that mean, exactly? It means when you have sunlight hitting the emissions above the concrete, it turns them into a harmless substance that gets washed away the next time it rains. Assuming the the trial on the “green bricks” is successful, we may even be able to see adaptations made on this idea, with emissions-eating buildings on the way shortly after. Not only will they clean the air, but they’ll repel all kinds of dirt as well. For more scientific information on this substance, check out this PDF.
