This week, McGraw-Hill Construction released market research results on green home building, how much it has grown, and preferences of for green materials and processes. They found that the green building market is expected to be worth between $12 and $20 billion dollars this year, and by 2012 will be worth between $40 and $70 billion. Keep reading for more stats on green building.

Results also showed that 40% of builders think green building “helps them market their homes in a down market”, and that (surprisingly), energy cost savings was the number 2 reason for building green. The number one reason for building green is quality, according the results.

It’s believed that green building has hit the tipping point now – but that doesn’t mean it isn’t going to keep growing. It is now becoming inescapable in the mainstream, and many home builders are demanding that their houses be build according to green specs.

Don’t be surprised if every subdivision of the future is a green one!
