The plans for the billboard had been in the making for some time, but last week the 16 cutting edge vertical wind turbines and 64 solar panels were hoisted up alongside the billboard, and set the example for its neighbours on the Great White Way. By powering the billboard directly with alternative energy, Ricoh is saving 18 tons of carbon per year, and hopes that other billboard owners will follow suit. Expect the billboard’s alternative energy system to be fully functional by the end of the month. Check the replies for a cool video of the billboard’s construction.
