Renewable Energy Production Still On The Rise

For anyone who doubted the production of renewable energy in the past months, you may be surprised to learn that May of this year saw a record amount of energy produced by biomass, geothermal, solar, hydro and wind sources. In fact, renewable energy made up 13% of the total energy produced! Although that may not seem like much, it was a 7.7% increase over May 2008.


What may surprise many people is the fact that the majority of the renewable energy production came from hydropower (9.4%), followed by wind (1.8%), biomass (1.3%), geothermal (0.4%), and lastly by solar (0.3%).


And since the share of renewable energy in the market went up, it means the coal and petroleum generation fell (by 14.8% and 8.3%, respectively), and showing no signs of slowing down.


One thing's for sure: it is going to be another good year for renewable energy.
