Solar Panels UK Launches Suitability Checker App

Leading UK solar energy resource site Solar Panels UK has just launched their first solar panel application for both iPad and iPhone.
This application aids consumers who are considering the installation of solar panels onto their roof or other site to determine the potential efficiency that could be obtained. The application is very simple to use and uses Google Maps technology.
After downloading the app for either iPhone or iPad to their device, the user can simply press the ‘Use Current Location’ button to allow the suitability checker to locate them via the inbuilt GPS feature. Alternatively one can also manually enter the address of the site and select the country from the drop down menu.
Once the site has been located and find tuned using satellite imagery the app then uses a performance graph overlay to help identify the suitability of the site or specific section of the property’s roof.

This offers a great tool to help identify which section of a roof should be chosen for optimal solar efficiency and version 2.0 which is currently in development plans to factor in sun time data based on GPS location and also slope/tilt angle of the roof to give estimated energy generation in kWh.
The app works all over the world and is completely free for both iPad and iPhone, you can view the iTunes store page.
For those living in the UK who don’t own a portable Apple device can use the tool online at Solar Panels UK.
